This weekend: The boys June 23, 2008

This weekend was great!! We started out by having dinner with the boys like a family would. We watched spider man, colored, played games and went to the park. We gave them each a basket with a toothbrush, deodorant, socks and new boxers. Meme taught them how to shower and they smelled good, which is an accomplishment. It would break all of our hearts if we had to send them back to the center where they are not given toilet paper, soap, attention, and structure. They all wanted to stay and begged us to not make them go back. After talking with the team, we all have decided to take them in until we get our other house. They are living in the team house where Havilah and I live so we will be moving into the “casita” or “little house” which is right beside the team house. Being a missionary, I have learned you have to be flexible. All of our plans have now changed and our main focus is on the 9 boys. At first I was overwhelmed with the thought of being a full-time mom and possibly not having any personal space. But hey, a little practice for the future won’t hurt =) and I am now ready to do whatever it takes to help these boys grow up to be godly men and someday have families of their own. We have someone who will be taking care of them at night so the team will be rotating shifts and taking care of the boys each day. I am enjoying getting to know all of the boys and can not tell you how much it means to finally see them so happy. We don’t know everything yet or how long they will be with us, but I am learning to be okay with not knowing.

Psalms 91 June 23, 2008

1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most Hight will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” 3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. 5 You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. 7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8 You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. 9 If you make the Most High your dwelling- even the Lord, who is my refuge- 10 then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. 11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; 12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. 13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. 14 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. 15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him; 16 with long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

These verses are what got me through the week and reminded me that no matter what sickness or problems may come my way… it will be okay.

Thanks Mrs. Sever =)
