These little children… February 18, 2009

Filed under: Pictures, The boys, Update — Lydia @ 9:11 pm

It made my day when I received these pictures.

Claudia was a little girl I met on my first trip to Mexico. She immediately stole my heart. I thought If I was old enough and could take care of a child, I would adopt her. I know she is in good hands and that she will one day have a home with parents who love and adore her. She has grown so much! My heart was torn when I was in Mexico recently and she wasn’t there. I miss her and hope I see her again.

Cynthia.. a little girl who was born with a sideways foot. She has had many surgerys and she is only 9 years old. I spent a lot of time with her the months I was in Mexico playing with her and carrying her around. She is a sweetheart and I miss her as well..

And all the boys, I don’t have all of their pictures but I love each and every one of them as if they were my own little brothers. I thank God they are living in a place where they have Godly leaders dedicating their lives so that one day these boys will grow up to be men of God.

Update! August 15, 2008

As the boys settle into their new home, we now have permanent staff to help us in the boys home. Because Havilah and I are not needed as often as we have been in the past, I am praying that God will show me clearly what my role will be these last few weeks I am here. Whether it be with the boys, getting more involved with the church, or giving my time to help in a thrift shop where 50% of earning goes to help with the boys home, I am listening to wherever it is the Lord directs me.

These past few days we have been able to take a break and catch up on our sleep. Things have been in constant motion and it has been draining physically, emotionally and spiritually. Now that the boys are moved in, we have been enjoying the rest and are excited that we have an opportunity to recharge.

After a lot of cleaning and preparations, we moved all the boys into their new house!

They were so excited and ready to be in their new house!

We still are in the process of getting the house, we are waiting for some paper work to be delt with. So we are renting it until it is officially ours.

Continue to pray for all the adjustments that still need to be made and for the boys.

As far as the boys… July 18, 2008

We have hired some staff to help us out at the boys home. We have a cook now who helps with lunch and dinner. Also, a guy Nahum has been helping us during the day doing physical fitness activities with the boys while he is on summer break from college. His dad is Jorge, the man who stays with the boys at night. They have been a great help and have allowed other staff to have a break every once in a while. Also, the boys were offered free classes at what is called DIF. So every day they have an English and crafts class. It allows them to get out of the house so they aren’t so bored which has been great. Two new boys who are brothers came yesterday! At most orphanages here in Mexico, the kids are let go at the age of 10. We are one of the few orphanages that will keep them until the age of 18. So they were taken from their other home and put with us. Luis is 13 and Sergio is 9. When they first arrived, they looked terrified. They are now getting along great with the boys and fitting in.

This weekend is going to be big!! Seven older boys from the orphanage will be staying in our team house (where Havilah and I live) for the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Thorpe, Havilah and I are going to teach them hygene, how to clean and do their laundry. They desperately need help. We are going to set up a projecter screen and watch movies, eat popcorn, play soccer, go swimming and have fun! It will be a good time for the boys to get away and most importantly know they are loved. The Hope House that we were hoping to get for the boys has fallen through. The owner kept raising the price and didn’t seem to want to let it go BUT We found another house and it looks like they will be buying it soon! It is just what they need.
